Vertical Grain "Rain" Effect

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make this cool rain effect. I also call it the 'matrix' effect as it's similar to the matrix 'code' backgrounds. Neat, eh?
  • Start off by creating a new file and filling it with a solid color (Edit > Fill). I suggest not to use black.
  • Now, go Filters > Textures > Grain. Select the Vertical Grain out of the drop down menu.

There are many uses for this effect; you can head over here for our Vertical Grain Backgrounds. Those look like this:

Alternatively, you can use this as a texture on any image. I just made another layer with the vertical 'rain' and either used overlay and messed with the opacity. On the flower, I erased parts of the vertical rain layer to reveal the flower image underneath, giving it a cool pop out effect. Feel free to use either image on your websites; I don't really care.
