    Meta tags? Huh? What are meta tags? The basics.. the title on your site, and what search engines use to describe and list you. Its one of the most important parts of your website, since a lot of your traffic will end up coming from search engines. A search engine is, if you don't know, like Google or Bing. They send bots and spiders to go to your website, and half a trillion others. These bots collect all of the information about your site and rank it with similar ones, so when you search for your site, the site that fits the description matches up.

    All meta tags are usually put into the

    <head> </head> tags, which on most webpages are on the top of the page.

    The description is one of the most important meta tags. After all, it tells searchers what the website is really about. Its recommended to have 2 short sentences in the description so it doesn't get cut off on search results.
    Code:

    <meta name="description" content="Description of your site. We are a help site that helps you and we make graphics. We help you.">

    The title is basically the most important meta tag, because not only does it name your site, its the only one with visible appearance on your site.
    Code

    <title>Site Name Here</title>

    Keywords are a different sort of meta tag. They dont show up on searches (on most search engines), but rather help fuel the search; if your keywords match the search the best, you will be the highest ranked.
    Code

    <meta name="keywords" content="Keywords,the,help,site,that,you,found,on,google">

    Tips:
    1) The title should be 63 characters or less. Try to include a short description about the page and the sites name.
    2) Choose the best 10 keywords. Google looks for quality. Also, include those keywords multiple times throughout your page.
    3) Restate the title on the page.
    4) Remember -- Google is changing more then ever. Instead of rankings being derived of how many backlinks you have, they're slowly changing it to more 'social' means. The more likes you have on Google Plus and such, you will have a better ranking. Also, now adays everyone gets a seperate result based on that persons past searches and their interests.
